On Saturday, the Lincoln College men’s basketball team hosted the #12 ranked Parkland College Cobras for a game that turned out to be an overtime thriller. The Lynx got off to a fast start thanks in part to the sharp shooting of freshman forward Richard Simpkins who lead Lincoln with 18 points shooting 7 of 17 from the field. LC played steady on defense and led at the half 33-19, but in the second half the Cobras would respond. Parkland’s outside shooters heated up after halftime and Lincoln was not able to slow them down enough to maintain their lead. The Cobras tied the score with five minutes left in the game, however neither team was able to gain much of an advantage from that point on and the score remained tied at the end of regulation. In overtime, PC built a five point lead, but a late bucket by the Lynx and a clutch three pointer from LC sophomore guard Justin Parker tied the score at 60-60 with only nine seconds left in OT. After a Parkland timeout, the Cobras were able to hit a layup at buzzer to escape with a 62-60 victory. Lincoln (12-8) will try to rebound from the loss on Wednesday at Danville CC.
